Low-Maintenance Beauty: 5 Indoor Blooming Plants Anyone Can Grow

Growing houseplants indoors during the winter is an excellent way to break up the drab view of a grey window as well as help filter the air in a room naturally. Caring for a plant for the first time can seem intimidating at first, and not everyone has the time or inclination to become an expert gardener.

We have a large range of house plants at our Make Their Day Flowers shops in Charlton Kings Cheltenham.

Nevertheless, that doesn’t mean virtually anyone can’t experience the aesthetic and health benefits of these indoor plants. There are a number of common indoor plants that will flourish to full bloom with a minimum of care, making them an ideal choice for those who would rather spend time admiring flowers than tending to them. I have a great range of indoor plants in the shop so do pop by and have a look.

African Violet

African violets are some of the most common flowering indoor house plants because of its combination of attractiveness and hardiness. It displays deep purple, pink and crimson colored blooms with deep green leaves, and only requires watering when the soil is dry to the touch. The only thing African violets do ask for is plenty of sunlight, but that is a small price to pay to enjoy their beauty season after season.

Begonias

Begonias are more widely known as an outdoor plant, but they can also thrive indoors. Begonias come in a range of varieties and are well known for their ease of maintenance, blooming year after year with a minimum of care. Begonias need a fair amount of sunlight, but are otherwise totally undemanding.

Peace Lily

Peace lilies are another excellent choice for inexperienced or infrequent gardeners, showing clusters of flowers and dark green foliage. Peace lilies are very easy to care for, requiring only regular watering and tolerating even the lowest levels of sunlight in a dim room with dignity. They can also grow up to 6 feet tall to create a striking floral display.

Yellow Amaryllis

The yellow amaryllis is a easy to maintain plant with soft yellow flowers growing from long, delicate stems. It is a compact plant, making it excellent for smaller spaces, and requires only partial exposure to sunlight. It even tolerates some measure of infrequent watering, as overhydration is a more frequent issue with this plant.

Kalanchoe

This flowering plant is typical of succulents in its lack of neediness, offering the beauty of blooms with all the care requirements of a cactus. Kalanchoe plants show angular green pods that store water and nutrients along with bright red flowers that instantly brighten a space. They only occasionally require water and are notoriously difficult to kill by accident, making them an outstanding choice for a budding gardener. We have some lovely Kalanchoe available now if you are passing!

Indoor plants add colour and warmth to a room, but keeping some of the more eye-catching varieties alive and healthy can prove a challenge. Fortunately, there are an array of flowering plants that can show their beauty even under limited circumstances.
