How to hygge your home for fall

Focus on natural light. While indoor lighting can be a great asset at night you can tone things down a bit and focus on natural lighting as much as possible. Dim the lights in your home and crack the curtains, light candles, or try a cosy cream lampshade to tone down harsh lighting for a cosy feeling. Lanterns or flickering fairy lights make great cosy lighting options. We have just added a range of Marmalade of London candles in the shop that are already proving very popular.

Kick on the fire. If you have an electric fireplace you can kick on the visual settings long before you need the heat to help make your pace feel cosier and inviting. If you do not have this option some candles or even electric candles to help add a warm flickering light to your space.

Add in warm and cosy elements Even the best sofa can be made more comfortable and relaxing with some added cosy throw pillows and blankets. Offering cosy pillows and blankets can help make your area feel warmer along with offering warmth on a cool night. Sherpa throws are particularly great for giving the hygge feel.

Add a cosy fragrance to your home. Essential oils are a great way to change the atmosphere of a space. Swap out your summer fragrance in your diffuser for warm cinnamon and clove for a warm and welcoming fragrance. Sandalwood and cedar or even spruce can help give your home a woody cottage feeling.

Set up a coffee bar. Nothing screams warm and cosy like fresh hot coffee or cocoa. Set up a coffee bar with oversized coffee cups and plenty of hot drink options like tea and cocoa to help make your space warmer and inviting.

Add in a rug. Placing rugs in your home is a great way to make your space feel warmer and cosier. Swap in a thick warm rug to help keep your home warm as the cold weather rolls in.

Bring nature into your home. From house plants to woodland creatures bringing the outdoors in can give your home a friendly welcoming feeling that fits the hygge style. Bring in sticks, dried flowers, and real fall leaves to help give your home the look and feel you want without spending a dime.

Embrace the imperfections of handmade. When it comes to handmade items for your home no two pieces are ever the same. This is because handmade items are made with the wonderful imperfection of the human hand. This beautiful imperfection makes items in your home feel more grounded and natural compared to mass machine-produced items.

Stock the bookshelves. The cosiest spaces are truly perfect for snuggling up with a good book. The fall is the perfect time to restock your bookshelves with reading to keep you busy on cool days and cold nights.
