How has Covid-19 affected the flower industry across the world?

Like many others, those of us in the flower industry have been affected in many ways by this global crisis. A lot of us rely heavily on weddings, mother’s day, birthdays and people giving flowers to loved ones in person, all things that have been scuppered by the lockdown and limited travel allowed at this time. Some of us, myself included, worked incredibly hard on our delivery options and we now offer same day delivery around Cheltenham and the Cotswolds but we still took a big hit.

Weddings stopped completely and are now much smaller affairs, people couldn’t get together for birthday celebrations when they would take flowers along with them and giving flowers in person has been severely limited for obvious reasons. A lot of us had to close too, especially at the height of lockdown which severely impacted our finances.

Another issue has been that as money has become tighter for so many, one of the first things to go is luxuries like buying flowers. This is a sad fact, that we are having to tighten our belts and the one thing that brings so much cheer and joy is now unavailable to us. It was hard for a while getting stock, as transport was limited and many tons of flowers went to waste across the globe as they couldn’t get to florists, or there weren’t any open to arrange them into glorious bouquets.

It’s not all doom and gloom though, things are actually looking up for florists and I’m cheered to say that all the wonderful support from my fabulous customers, old and new, has kept me on my feet. My delivery service is booming, as is foot traffic through my Cheltenham store. People are sending big bunches of love and cheer to their friends and family and showing your loved ones that you care has been top priority. Flower wholesalers have recovered, I’ve made some wonderful new connections with British growers and am feeling really positive that we can come through this together, I can’t tell you how much joy it brings me to hear your wonderful feedback about how happy you were with the bouquet you ordered.

Floristry is a passion for me and I genuinely make every bouquet with the same attention and care that I did with my very first. I love to chat to my customers, to find out what they think would make the perfect gift for their recipient but equally I’m incredibly proud of the vast selection I have in my online shop if it’s easier for you to just order online.

I can’t wait to get back to doing big weddings again but in the meantime, I’m just so thrilled to be able to keep putting colour into your lives.

Thanks for being my wonderful customers,

Izzy
